Mahindra has revealed the prices for the 4×4 variants of the Thar Roxx, starting at Rs 18.79 lakh for the MX5 MT and going up to Rs 22.49 lakh for the AX7 L AT. The 4×4 configuration is available only with the diesel engine, while the petrol variant only gets a 4×2 setup.
The prices for the Thar Roxx’s 4×2 variants were revealed last month, which range from Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 20.49 lakh. This means that the 4×4 versions are priced about Rs 1.8 lakh to 2 lakh higher than the equivalent 4×2 variants, but other than the 4×4 tech, they share the same equipment and safety kit. The lifestyle SUV’s pricing overlaps with the Thar 3-door (Rs 11.35 lakh-17.60 lakh) and the Scorpio N (Rs 13.85 lakh-24.54 lakh).
Mahindra is offering the Thar Roxx 4×4 with a sole 2.2-litre diesel engine that puts out 175hp and 370Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, the diesel 4×2 variants are powered by the 152hp and 330Nm versions of this engine. The five-door SUV gets Mahindra’s ‘4XPLOR System’, which includes an electronic locking differential and terrain modes – Snow, Sand and Mud.
In addition, 4×4 variants also get a ‘Smart Crawl’ and a ‘Intelliturn’ feature. The former is a off-road cruise control system that can be activated between 2.5kph and 30kph. The latter allows the Roxx to make extremely tight turns by locking the rear inner wheel based on the steering direction. This feature operates at speeds under 15kph and can only be activated for up to 15 seconds.
The Thar Roxx is also available with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 162hp and 330Nm with the manual gearbox, and 177hp and 380Nm torque with the automatic. Both engines get a 6-speed manual gearbox along with an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx directly goes up against the Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Jimny. However, it also gives competition to monocoque mid-size SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
