The Delhi government’s transport department has issued new guidelines to address delays in receiving registration certificates for newly purchased vehicles.

Following complaints about delays in receiving registration certificates (RC) from automobile dealers for newly purchased vehicles, Delhi govt‘s transport department has issued new guidelines to streamline the process.

Officials said instructions had been given to automobile dealers with the capability to issue registration certificates themselves. They must assign dedicated staff to enter buyer details on the centralised VAHAN portal and ensure that their printing machines are always in working condition.

Complaints about the delays also reached transport minister Kailash Gahlot, who directed the department to address the issues promptly.

An inquiry revealed that several automobile dealers had employed the same individual for data entry, leading to an overload of work, delays in the approval process, and consequently, delays in printing and delivering RCs.

To address this, the transport department has instructed district officials to capture the Aadhaar-related credentials of all individuals engaged by self-registered dealers for data entry on the VAHAN portal. The National Informative Centre (NIC), which manages the VAHAN portal, has been asked to implement Aadhaar-based log-in for data entry staff to prevent the same person from working for multiple dealers.
