To address pollution and traffic congestion, the Dehradun district administration will soon have nine functional electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the city. District magistrate Savin Bansal told TOI that the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) conducted surveys and finalised these locations, including areas around Gandhi Park, Rispana Pull, Clock Tower, and IT Park.
“The project will be based on a zero-investment model. A small parcel of govt land will be provided to blue-chip firms, who will install the necessary infrastructure. A revenue-sharing model is yet to be decided,” said Bansal. He added the project could become functional in two months and should be fully operational within this financial year. Officials believe the move will help curb pollution and encourage Doonites to shift to EVs once the support infrastructure is in place. The stations will accommodate two vehicles each and will take 45-50 minutes per charge. officials said.
