Key infrastructure projects in the city and across the state have been approved as part of the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) annual plan for 2024-25.
The state govt’s efforts have resulted in the sanctioning of INR 12,029 crore for nine highway projects, including Vijayawada East bypass road and a mega flyover at Mahanadu junction in the city. With detailed project reports (DPRs) and land acquisition as the next steps, officials aim to fast-track these developments to improve connectivity across the state.
One of the significant projects is the 50km Vijayawada East bypass, which would ease traffic congestion and complement the existing bypass from Chinnavutapalli to Kaja. A sum of INR 2,716 crore has been allocated for the bypass, and a consultancy firm has prepared three alignment options. NHAI officials are scheduled to meet district collectors and stakeholders from Krishna and Guntur districts to finalise the alignment.
The chosen alignment will be sent to NHAI’s head office by the end of the month, after which the DPR will be prepared and land acquisition will begin.
