Stellantis cuts 250 temporary positions in a factory near Rennes

“This new temporary organization will make it possible to adjust to the volume of production,” Stellantis explained to AFP on Monday, which ensures that “this staff will be a priority to reintegrate our organization during the ramp-up of production. the new C5 Aircross“, by summer 2025. 

“The management says + we will resume them from July or September +”, explains Fabrice Lucas, CGT secretary of the site, contacted by AFP. “For management, these are simple adjustment variables. For us, they are human beings who need to pay their rent,” he laments. 

He denounces already “very difficult” working conditions with a “very high” workload and speeds, leading to “numerous work stoppages”. A situation which could worsen with fewer positions.

“The factory management has already cut half a team in February 2024,” he recalls. With these new job cuts, in January 2025, only one team of the two remains. 

On the other side of France, in Sochaux (Doubs), the historic Peugeot factory will accelerate production of the 3008 and 5008 electric and hybrid SUVs. A night shift is due to start working on November 4 and the factory will remain open every Saturday in November, in particular.

In December, the trend should be the same, Stellantis said Tuesday during a CSE of the site, and management could call on volunteers to work during Christmas week.

The manufacturer, in difficulty, presented a net profit halved in the first half of 2024, mainly due to a decline in sales in Europe but also in North America. 

The group has promised a three-year production plan by mid-November to give “visibility” to the various French sites. Carlos Tavares, the group’s general director, did not rule out site closures
