Suzuki to develop electric SUV for Toyota through new partnership

Suzuki has announced that it will supply Toyota with a new all-electric SUV as part of a strengthened partnership between the two OEMs. Developed by Suzuki, itself, the new model is expected to be produced at the automaker’s Gujarat plant in India from spring 2025.

This new collaboration builds on the long-standing partnership between Suzuki and Toyota, which began in 2016. Since then, the OEMs have together engaged in a varied partnership aiming to provide their customers with freedom of movement and fun driving experiences.

The fields of this collaboration are diverse and today include the production and mutual supply of vehicles and the spread of electrified vehicles. As a result, the market launch of vehicles produced through the collaboration has expanded to Japan, India, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The vehicle spawned from the renewed partnership marks the first BEV to be featured in the relationship between the two companies. The BEV itself will be launched worldwide and will enable Suzuki and Toyota to further promote their respective sustainability initiatives.

Designed exclusively as an EV, the vehicle will balance a nimble design with the characteristics of an electric vehicle with ample range and a comfortable cabin. At the same time, it will offer an all-wheel drive system that enhances drivability on rough road conditions, and strengths driving performance. Its BEV unit and platform were jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and the Daihatsu Motor Corporation – drawing on the strengths of each company.
