Police commissioner Laxmi Singh on Friday flagged off a rally and inaugurated the ‘traffic safety month.’
In the state, Nov is observed as ‘traffic safety month’ to raise awareness for preventing road accidents and fatalities. At least 331 people died and 735 were injured in 853 accidents in the district from Jan to Sept this year.
Singh said like previous years, this year too, Nov will witness regular campaigns, awareness and enforcement drives.
“There are three main focus areas in this month-long campaign; traffic awareness, enforcement and educating the public through traffic volunteers. It is also every citizen’s responsibility to adhere to traffic rules. If everyone follows these rules diligently, accidents could be significantly reduced,” she said.
The traffic awareness programme also saw participation from officials of the transport department, auto unions, trade associations, various RWAs and DDRWA, NGOs, etc.
To make the traffic awareness programmes more informative, traffic stalls were set up to educate the public about traffic-related equipment such as speed radars, decibel meters, and body-worn cameras.
