China has consistently supported and encouraged mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation between the Chinese and European automotive industries, said the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.

Speaking at a weekly briefing in Beijing, He Yadong, the spokesman for the ministry, stressed that China has continuously maintained an open and collaborative stance, promoting a market-driven approach and encouraging healthy competition.

The official made remarks after the European Commission announced the imposition of anti-subsidy tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles on Tuesday, a decision that has sparked strong opposition from within the EU and key industry stakeholders.

China is committed to working with relevant countries through trade, investment and technological collaboration to strengthen partnerships in the EV industry, jointly ensure the stability of global automotive supply chains, and advance a green transition to address climate change together.
