STATEMENTS
Félix García, director of communication and marketing at ANFAC, explained that “although it is true that this month has had two more working days, October closes again on a positive note, which is good news. If the market manages to end the year with this trend, we could end 2024 with close to one million units. A barrier that Spain must overcome as soon as possible. Not only for economic reasons for the country but also to continue advancing in the decarbonization and renewal of the Spanish automobile fleet. Therefore, it is necessary to remind citizens that they currently have aid for the purchase of an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle until the end of the year, which can total up to 10,000 euros. A message that would gain more strength if we had an outreach campaign from the public sphere that raises citizen awareness about the advantages of changing to a zero or low emission vehicle.”
Raúl Morales, communications director of FACONAUTO, indicated that “this year, stability in the automotive market in our country is not good news. Vehicle registration data in October confirm this. We have been seeing how month after month, the market has been losing strength in such a way that we have been forced to correct our forecasts downwards. Right now we are at a critical moment in which, with luck, we will be able to repeat the same figures as last year, that is, about 980,000 registrations. However, these sales are not enough for our sector, which is why we need a reaction that must occur with electrified vehicles next year. To do this, we need effective measures, measures that we have been talking about for some time, such as direct aid and taxation that favors this transition.
GANVAM’s communications director, Tania Puche, pointed out that “the market closes October positively, with growth in all channels, taking into account that we have two more business days than the same month of 2023 with which we make the comparison. Having mentioned this calendar effect, the growth of the business channel is significant, after nine consecutive months of decline. Behind this growth is an increase in tactical registrations to help brands sell models that could hamper compliance with the CO2 emissions targets imposed by Europe for 2025. Individual purchases, for their part, are concentrated around of half the sales volume, which is also a notable fact, as is the fact that the gap with respect to pre-pandemic levels continues to narrow. “It is foreseeable that this good trend will continue in the months of November and December, which would lead us to touch the barrier of one million registrations by the end of 2024.”
