Bosch defends tooth and nail diesel

Do everything, even play the hawkers, to save the Diesel soldier. Bosch says it has found a quick fix for drastically reducing nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines – a fuel that theoretically emits 15 to 20 percent less CO2 than gasoline. Engineers of the German equipment manufacturer, a major player in diesel, have found a new system based on the optimization of existing equipment, capable of emitting an average of 40 mg / km of Nox. That is three times less than the standard that will apply in Europe from 2020. Even in the city, when the engine is cold, and even during start-up, the current weaknesses of automotive pollution control.

With this device that would not increase consumption either, “diesel is low-emission and affordable,” said Volkmar Denner, chairman of Bosch’s board of directors and lead diesel advocate. The one who had insurgency when Volkswagen had issued the idea to remove subsidies at the pump for this fuel in Germany hopes to “close the heated debate on diesel” while sales fall in Europe (38.5% of registrations in the first quarter). “With that, traffic bans in city centers will no longer be necessary,” said the boss of Bosch, a group that was caught, like his big Volkswagen customer, in the scandal of Dieselgate.

Code of ethics

The equipment manufacturer has also increased its legal risk provision on this issue to 1.5 billion euros, while enacting a new code of conduct: now, Bosch employees will no longer be able to develop software intended to deceive authorities tests or design products “optimized for test situations”, even if the client requests it.

These setbacks did not prevent the Stuttgart giant to post a solid result in 2017 , with an increase of turnover 6.8% to 78 billion euros, and one Operating income 5.3 billion, up 17%.
