Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), a leading passenger vehicle manufacturer in India, has reached the milestone of 3 million cumulative vehicle exports. The landmark vehicle was part of a shipment comprising 1,053 units that departed from Gujarat’s Pipavav port yesterday. The shipment included models such as the Celerio, Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Ciaz, Dzire, and S-Presso.
Maruti Suzuki began exporting vehicles from India in 1986, with its first significant consignment of 500 cars shipped to Hungary in September 1987. The company reached its 1 million export milestone in FY 2012-13 and achieved the next million less than nine years later, in FY 2020-21. The progression from 2 million to 3 million exports was completed in just three years and nine months, marking the fastest million milestone in the company’s export history.
Commenting on the achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, emphasised that this milestone highlights India’s automobile manufacturing capabilities and the global recognition of Indian-made vehicles. He expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its supportive trade policies and agreements, which have contributed to the company’s export growth. Takeuchi noted that 40% of passenger vehicles exported from India are from Maruti Suzuki, making it the country’s leading vehicle exporter. He attributed the company’s success in international markets to the quality, safety, design, and technology of its vehicles and thanked global customers and distributors for their trust.
He further stated that Maruti Suzuki’s exports have tripled over the past four years. In response to growing global demand, the company plans to expand and diversify its vehicle exports, targeting 750,000 units by FY 2030-31.
Between April and October of FY 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki exported 181,444 units, reflecting a 17.4% increase compared to the same period the previous year. The company currently exports 17 models to nearly 100 countries, with key markets including Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Among the top export models are the Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Dzire, and S-Presso.
