Mahindra & Mahindra has today launched the first two of its ‘Born Electric’ SUVs, seeking to redefine India’s electric vehicle landscape. The BE 6e, starting at ₹18.90 lakh, and the XEV 9e, priced from ₹21.90 lakh, represent a new chapter in premium electric mobility, built on the groundbreaking INGLO (Intelligent Electric Global) architecture and powered by MAIA, touted as the fastest automotive mind in the world.
Deliveries will commence in late February or early March 2025, with a phased market rollout beginning in January 2025. Both models come with a groundbreaking lifetime battery warranty for first registered private owners (terms apply), while subsequent owners receive a 10-year/200,000 km warranty.
The SUVs showcase distinctive design philosophies under Mahindra’s “Heartcore Design” ethos. The BE 6e features an edgy, athletic silhouette with sporty proportions, while the XEV 9e exudes sophistication with its suave SUV coupe design. Both vehicles offer impressive dimensions, with the BE 6e measuring 4371 x 1907 x 1627mm and the XEV 9e at 4789 x 1907 x 1694mm, both sharing a 2775mm wheelbase.
In terms of performance, both models offer two battery options: 79 kWh and 59 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries. The 79 kWh variant delivers a certified range of 682 km (MIDC P1+P2) for the BE 6e and 656 km for the XEV 9e — among the highest in India.
The 3-in-1 integrated powertrain produces up to 210 kW power and 380 Nm of instant torque. Fast charging capabilities are impressive, with 20-80% charging possible in under 20 minutes using a 175 kW fast charger.
The technological suite is also impressive. MAIA features 220k DMIPS, 51 TOPS with over 80 billion transistors and 130+ million lines of code. The system runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chipset, supported by 24 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6.0, Bluetooth 5.2, and 5G capability.
As for the interior comfort and entertainment, the models come with “Sonic Studio Experience by Mahindra,” developed in collaboration with AR Rahman and 16-time Grammy winner Richard King. The system features a 1,400-watt, 16-speaker Harman Kardon setup with Dolby Atmos. A unique VenueScapes Live feature authentically recreates acoustics from iconic venues like Mumbai’s Royal Opera House and London’s Wembley Stadium.
The vehicles feature advanced safety systems including ADAS Level 2+ with 5 radars and 1 vision camera. The “Secure360” system provides comprehensive surveillance with 360-degree cameras and in-cabin monitoring. The “Autopark” feature utilizes 12 ultrasonic sensors for various parking maneuvers.
Investment Roadmap
Mahindra’s investment strategy is robust, with ₹4,500 crores allocated to developing and manufacturing the models, out of the total ₹16,000 crore investment planned for the F22-F27 cycle. This includes powertrain development, software and tech development, and manufacturing capacity expansion. The company is establishing a 90,000-unit annual production facility at their Automotive Division in Chakan, scheduled for completion by March 2025.
Customer experience has been prioritized with 500 specialists from luxury brands providing pre-purchase drive experiences and 400 tech experts offering dedicated support. The company is also launching CHARGE.IN, a dedicated charging vertical with 350+ experts and an industry-first relationship manager system.
R Velusamy, President of Automotive Product Development, emphasized the vehicles’ revolutionary nature: “These products built on our grounds-up revolutionary electric origin architecture INGLO and powered by MAIA, the fastest automotive mind in the world, embody Mahindra’s vision of Unlimit India, setting new global benchmarks.”
The launch represents Mahindra’s most ambitious step yet in the electric vehicle space, maintaining a strong focus on Indian innovation and global standards.
