The rumor was insistent. Here it is confirmed. The Sochaux plant will produce 5008 to allow the release of a production line at the Rennes site for the new C5 Aircross. “The established commercial success of the Peugeot 5008 and the prospect of ramping up the future Citroën C5 Aircross will generate production volumes beyond the production capacity of the Rennes site by 2019/2020,” says the manufacturer. The strong sales of the Citroën C5 Aircross in China prompted the management to propose the model on the European market, says one.
Sochaux recovers Rennes production
The volume of 5008 cars that would be produced in Sochaux has not been specified. Production could begin in the first quarter of 2019.
At present, the Rennes La Janais plant produces 500 plus 5008 cars a day. The order books for this model and the new C5 Aircross require a rearrangement of the production sites. Sochaux is the lucky winner.
“This is good news!” This proves that the site of Sochaux, the parent company, is essential in the PSA group, “said the union in a statement. According to Eric Peultier, “This is also good news for the VSD team, which will have to extend in 2019.”
The choice of Sochaux is explained. The Montbéliard factory has already produced the first version of the 5008. Much of the new 5008 is manufactured with parts from the 3008, the great success of the Sochaux plant.
