Mahindra’s XEV 9e and BE 6 Electric SUVs Record 30,179 First-Day Bookings

Mahindra’s latest electric SUV lineup has achieved unprecedented first-day bookings, signaling a significant shift in India’s automotive market toward premium electric vehicles.

The automaker reported 30,179 bookings for its Electric Origin SUVs—the XEV 9e and BE 6—on their first day of availability, amounting to Rs 8,472 crores in potential sales at ex-showroom prices. This figure is particularly notable given that India’s total electric passenger vehicle sales reached approximately 100,000 units in 2024.

The XEV 9e emerged as the more popular model, securing 56% of the bookings, while the BE 6 accounted for 44%. Consumer preference strongly favored the high-capacity variant, with 73% of buyers across both models selecting the top-tier Pack Three, which features a 79 kWh battery.

These vehicles, unveiled on November 26, 2024, represent Mahindra’s commitment to its UNLIMIT India vision, which emphasizes domestic manufacturing for both local and international markets. The strong market response suggests growing consumer confidence in Indian-manufactured premium electric vehicles.

Mahindra has outlined a structured delivery schedule beginning in mid-March 2025 with the Pack Three variant. Subsequent deliveries will follow throughout the year, with Pack Three Select vehicles arriving in June, Pack Two in July, and both Pack One Above and Pack One variants in August.

The successful launch comes at a crucial time for India’s electric vehicle market, which has seen steady growth in recent years. Industry analysts will be watching closely to see if this initial enthusiasm translates into sustained demand for premium electric SUVs in the Indian market.

The BE.06 and XUV.e9 are crucial to Mahindra’s EV strategy, marking their entry into the premium electric SUV segment. These models, built on the INGLO platform, showcase Mahindra’s commitment to advanced technology and performance.

The BE.06, with its sporty design, targets tech-savvy individuals seeking a thrilling driving experience. The XUV.e9, a spacious SUV-coupe, appeals to those prioritizing luxury and style. Both models boast impressive range, fast charging capabilities, and cutting-edge features like ADAS Level 2+ and a digital cockpit.

By offering these models in various trims and price points, Mahindra aims to cater to a wider audience, democratizing access to premium EVs. The “Three for Me” finance plan further enhances affordability, making these vehicles attractive to a larger customer base.

Both the BE.06 and XUV.e9 offer two battery pack options: 59 kWh and 79 kWh, both utilizing Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry.  This translates to a range of 535 km to 682 km for the BE.06 and 542 km to 656 km for the XUV.e9 (MIDC Part 1+2).

Performance-wise, both models pack a punch with a 210 kW electric motor, achieving 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds for the BE.06 and 6.8 seconds for the XUV.e9. They support 175 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 20-80% charge in under 20 minutes.

Inside, they boast a futuristic digital cockpit with dual screens, an augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), and a 16-speaker 3D surround sound system. Safety is taken care of with Level 2+ ADAS features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
