Citroën and DS called, this Monday, February 17, 2025, some 236,000 owners of C3 and DS3 models, in the north of France, not to drive anymore. In question, a new wave of immobilization of these vehicles called “Stop Drive” linked to the defective airbag scandal of the Takata brand. According to the Ministry of Transport, they are likely to cause serious injury and have already caused at least one death in mainland France and eleven overseas, where the climate degrades their components faster.
A situation that already pushed Citroën and DS a year ago, the Stellantis group, to launch a first immobilization campaign in southern Europe and the Maghreb. This time, the group extends its recall, which already touched the south of the country and overseas, at the Citroën C3 and DS3 produced between 2008 and 2013 to the rest of France. He also asks users to no longer use their vehicles and make an appointment with their dealerships.
To reduce care times, the group has also mobilized eight of its factories in France and among them, Trémery located in Moselle. “This is an operation that lasts 30 minutes. The Trémery factory is able to change between 30 and 50 airbags per day, “said Stellantis spokesperson. If the group calls on customers to no longer roll with their vehicles, he specifies that they can still bring their car to their dealer: “The airbag only jumps out in the event of an accident”, adds the spokesperson .
Last week, before the campaign was set up, the factory has already replaced the airbags with a hundred vehicles. “We are able to push further,” said the spokesperson.
The group provides for a new wave of recall for vehicles sold between 2014 and 2019 in the north of France and other European countries, but without immobilization.
