Defective airbags: How do Citroën garages organize themselves in Franche-Comté in the face of thousands of motorists impacted?

The “Stop Drive” operation has been underway since February for Citroën vehicles targeted by airbag failures in Franche-Comté. Motorists and concessions in the territory therefore had to adapt to a penalizing and disturbing situation for the two parties.

On January 21, 2025, a massive recall of Citroën vehicles, for potential defects in Takata airbags, was requested throughout the northern part in France. 236,900 cars are affected in France. In the north of Franche-Comté, around 2,000 vehicles are targeted by this request. Now for the Garages Members of the PSA group (Peugeot Société Anonyme), the time is for the organization in order to correct the shot before the start of the summer.

Since Monday, February 17, a “Stop Drive” operation has been launched by Citroën, in other words a demand “to immediately stop leading the C3 and DS3 made between 2009 and 2013, throughout the northern half of France”. A situation that pushes the Francs-Comtois to go to the various concessions affiliated with the PSA group, but which has also forced the garages to set up for a limited period, a brand new organization.

On the side of the town of Voujeaucourt (Doubs), the “Stop Drive” operation has created new obligations for the Citroën garage. On site, the demand exploded with the concern of C3 and DS3 users in the face of the recall of the various vehicles.

Just to come here [to the garage], it’s true that we are worried.

“I was told to come with the car to see what airbags it was. Not all C3s have the same,” said a motorist. The situation is unprecedented for some and that does not help them to reassure themselves, “it is still a source of concern, because it is a car that I use, even if it is punctual. Just for Coming here [at the garage] is true that we are worried. “

“I waited for a good half hour and the airbag was changed. I left, it was free,” said a owner of a Citroën vehicle, who comes out of his appointment. For his part, Philippe Gudefin, the executive director of the NEDEY group (company affiliated with the PSA group), had to set up a new organization for its employees but also for users.

“We have put more people, five people are now dedicated to replacing airbags”. An increase in staff that is also felt in logistics, notably with appointment, but also orders.

With an appointment and a repair of approximately one hour, the operation “stop drive” remains in place at least until the beginning of the summer on French territory and must help to compensate for the failures of the Takata Airbags designated as defective.
