What is the difference of Denatran and Senatran?

There is no difference between Denatran and Senatran. The National Traffic Department ceased to exist in September 2021 and all its responsibilities and attributions became the National Traffic Secretariat.

The idea of change was to turn a department into a national secretariat and deliver greater autonomy to manage tasks and conflicts. Here’s the main functions of Senatran and how useful for your daily life:

What is the function of Senatran?

Senatran’s role is to supervise and enforce traffic legislation, supervise the delegated bodies of the National Traffic System (SNT) in the execution of the National Traffic Policy and to execute the rules and guidelines established by the National Traffic Council (Contran), as described in Art. 19 of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB). In addition, the secretary has other functions, such as:

Promote the education, supervision and implementation of traffic awareness projects;
Responsibility for the issuance and organization of licenses, certificates of the National Registry of Qualified Drivers (Renach), National Vehicle Registry (Renavam) and National Driver’s License;
Standardization of the collection and registration of drivers with traffic agencies in the country;
Elaborate and organize the traffic signs with Contran and other STN bodies;
Organize the National Traffic Infringement Registry (Renainf), the Positive National Driver Registry (RNPC) and the National Traffic Claims and Statistics Registry (RNPC).

What is the difference between Senatran and Detran?

The difference between Senatran and Detran is that the first covers the entire national territory and the second is a state agency, responsible for overseeing, regularizing and managing vehicle traffic, as well as training drivers and issuing documents such as National Driver’s License (CNH).

The acronym Detran means state traffic department, and the main difference between the two is the coverage of each of them. And because it is state, it has several squares and service stations, which, for simpler cases, speeds up the process and facilitates both the driver and the organ.

While Detran takes care of state issues, Senatran takes care at national level.
