After Norbert Sprenger explored the area from above from the aircraft window, he switches to a hot air balloon to land in front of the company complex. “Astonishing,” he says when he finally decreases the Virtual Reality (VR) glasses. “I was traveling in the future.” The engineer is one of the ten employees who have experienced an exclusive VR tour on the “Green Campus”-the future Opel headquarters in Rüsselsheim. A huge Opel flash in the courtyard, the impressive reception portal in bright yellow-“that will be spectacular” is his conclusion.
This VR Experience made the team around Pierre-Olivier Garcia possible. The Global Brand Design Director of the brand designs the new headquarters as a virtual 3D model. The data form the basis for the designs of the architects, in the VR Cave of the Opel Design you can be experienced. “Even if not every detail is final, you get a good feeling for what’s coming,” says Garcia. What comes: short distances, lots of green, an iconic architecture, a work environment that creates space for ideas and exchange. “What distinguishes our models also applies to the ‘Green Campus’-a brave appearance with a clear focus on sustainability,” emphasizes the brand specialist.

The future project takes shape: Pierre Olivier Garcia, global Opel Brand Design Director, explains the designs.
Vision becomes reality: In a few weeks, the groundbreaking ceremony for the “Green Campus” is planned.
With the Vitual Reality glasses, the colleagues immerse themselves in the 3D world of the new headquarters.
Administration, research and development as well as the design are combined in the Opel triangle.
Usually the VR technology is used for development and validation processes.
On the 105,000 square meter area-located on Mainzer Straße next to Tor 60, vis à vis to the Aral petrol station-an administration building, a complex for research and development as well as a design center. In the so-called Opel triangle, the future heart of the brand is bundled, the Stellantis Germany complex is followed. “The farewell to the Adam Opel House will not be too difficult,” admits Kiyomi Mitschke after her 3D excursion. When the previous headquarters were moved into rugbyring in the summer of 1996, it was just new to the company. After almost 30 years, the time is ripe for a fresh start, she thinks.
Insert!
The “Green Campus” in Rüsselsheim is an essential part of Opel and Stellantis’ strategy to be CO₂-neutral by 2038. The “EE” in “Green Campus” stands for the commitment of Stellantis for the environment (“Environment”) and the employees (“Employees”). The company headquarters should be much more than a pure place to work: Tomorrow’s workplaces – environmentally friendly and completely compatible with the new hybrids and flexible working methods on site or from a distance are created. All colleagues are invited to make suggestions and to bring in wishes to their future workplace. (Contact via Thehub?)
Lots of green, lots of space: The landscape park in the middle of the “Green Campus” offers opportunities for break times and personal exchange.
On two dates, five colleagues each had the opportunity to explore the future headquarters exclusively. The places were raffled off by internal communication.
Even more: “This here,” says Katharina König and points to a visualization of the green landscape park, “motivates and makes you really desire for our new headquarters.” On her virtual tour, she strolls through the green campus, which connects the building complexes. There is a pond, many seating, trees donate shadows. Pierre-olivier Garcia points to bricks that are embedded in the ground. They will come from previous Opel buildings that are torn down. Because: the future also needs origin.
“These visualizations motivate and make you really desire for our new Opel headquarters.”

Modern, efficient, friendly and urban: The “Green Campus” is the heart of the future global Opel and Stellantis Germany headquarters. The colleague Kiyomi virtually explores the iconic facade, enters the office space that takes up the new agile working models.
“I saw solar panel on the roofs,” Simon Frieseneck is particularly interested in the aspects that make the “Green Campus” project CO2-neutral. The photovoltaic systems are intended to cover the electricity requirements of the office buildings, due to the regenerative energy generation, the complex can be operated in the balance sheet. The buildings are air -conditioned using heat pumps, the green areas irrigated with rainwater.
“I was very curious about this digital event,” reveals Jörg Kruse. Especially since the first effects of the new building can already be felt. Parking areas along Mainzer Straße are still closed in March, and construction site areas are being set up there. The engineer, responsible for the calibration of the measurement technology, pulls on the VR glasses, puts his head back, studies the green facade of his future workplace, enters the bright foyer and explores the open office space. “You can hardly wait for it to start,” he sums up. He does not have to wait a long time: the start of the move to the Rüsselsheimer “Green-Campus” is planned towards the end of 2026.
Identifying: Not only the winners of the VR Experience can get involved-all employees have the opportunity to address their wishes to the “Green Campus”.
