Callback at Amazons Zoox

Amazon subsidiary Zoox has recalled 258 self-driving cars for unexpected braking maneuvers. The measure follows NHTSA examinations after two accidents with motorcyclists.

The startup Zoox, the company for autonomous driving, has caused a voluntary recall of 258 vehicles because problems with the autonomous driving system could lead to unexpected strong braking maneuvers.

The recall follows a preliminary examination of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) From May last year, after the authority had received two reports on incidents, in which motorcyclists were raised to the rear of Zoox vehicles-Toyota Highlander, which were equipped with ZOOX technology. The first examination showed that in both cases the zoox vehicles were traveling with activated autonomous systems.

Zoox only calls back vehicles that are equipped with software versions that were published before November 5, 2024. In an NHTSA report, the company stated that it resolved the problem with a software update by November 7, 2024.

Techcrunch has asked whether only the Toyota Highlanders from Zoox were affected or whether the update also applies to the specially developed robotaxis from ZOOX.

Zoox is currently testing a limited number of its tailor -made robotaxis, which were built without a steering wheel or pedals, in San Francisco and Las Vegas. In June last year, Zoox announced plans, his technology also in Austin and Miami to test.

After a few years of increased control by regulatory authorities, the callback is carried out after a security incident with cruise in 2023, which has been discontinued since then and incorporated into his parent company General Motors.

Last year called Waymo Voluntarily 672 Jaguar I-Pace Robotaxis after several security incidents had been reported, including a collision with a telephone mast.
