Porsche to upgrade infotainment system for select 2026 models

Porsche has announced a series of new updates to its core infotainment system, the Porsche Communication Management System (PCM), that will arrive this summer for the 2026 model year 911, Taycan, Panamera, and Cayenne models. While marking the debut of a refreshed Porsche App Center and a native Amazon Alexa assistant, the upgrade will also deliver an expanded Porsche Connect Group package.

Facilitating PCM’s new features is a hardware upgrade that optimizes power and offers additional capabilities, including direct access to a range of third-party apps for native use. In aiming to ensure a reliable digital user experience, the OEM confirmed that its Porsche Connect Group package will be included as standard for 10 years.

Representing an upgrade from the previous model year, the new Porsche App Center will offer direct access to various first- and third-party apps spanning different categories, with Porsche aiming to offer a similar user experience to mobile app stores. Porsche presented the App Center for the first time with the introduction of the all-electric Macan and is now looking to extend the conveniency and contemporary experience offered by it to other model series.

Depending on the customer’s market, the available apps on App Center will include popular streaming apps for music, video and podcasts, as well as news services, media libraries and weather apps. Further categories include navigation-focused apps, for researching points of interest or EV charging points, as well as a series of in-vehicle gaming apps.

Making its debut on the updated PCM is the Amazon Alexa assistant, which is now offered alongside Porsche’s proprietary Porsche Voice Pilot assistant. While driving Alexa can be used to control smart home functions such as automatic garage doors or home lighting, as well as researching information, creating and editing to-do lists and shopping lists, playing podcasts and music, or checking the latest news and weather reports. It can also be used to control media and supported third-party apps. Alexa can be activated using the ‘Alexa’ voice command, by pressing an individually configured button, or tapping an icon switch tile in the PCM.

Through the update, selected cars equipped with premium and high-end audio systems, from Bose and Burmester, feature Dolby Atmos sound technology. Creating a spatial sound experience for the occupants, individual audio tracks and sounds can be placed anywhere around the listener and reproduced with enhanced clarity, depth, and precision. Porsche confirmed that a selection of apps provided through the App Center will take advantage of this functionality.

Through the improved PCM, Porsche is ultimately aiming to reaffirm its commitment to expanding the range of services offered to all model series and offering its customers a contemporary, inspiring driving experience. Cars from the new model year can be ordered now, and will be delivered to distribution partners from June.
