As many as 350 electric vehicles (EVs) of numerous kind took out a rally, organised by the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (Meda) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Bee) in the city on Saturday to promote renewable energy.

Starting from the TV Center area, the rally included bikes, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, buses, and luggage-carrying vehicles, among others. It covered different parts of the city with an appeal by authorities to choose eco-friendly modes of transportation.

Speaking on the occasion, renewable energy minister Atul Save said India was spending huge amounts of money on supplying conventional fuel such as petrol and diesel. “The money can be saved if more and more citizens switched to EVs. EVs also address the issue related to carbon footprint,” he said.

Referring to the multi-crore investment by EV manufacturers at Auric in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Save said the policies of both the Centre and the state were encouraging the use of EVs. Besides Meda and Bee, top authorities from MSEDCL, the Forest department and the district administration also attended the rally.
