Kia’s April sales rise 9.3 pct as demand recovers

SEOUL, May 2 (Yonhap) — Kia Motors Corp. said Wednesday its vehicle sales rose 9.3 percent in April from a year earlier on recovering demand for its vehicles.

Kia Motors sold 240,028 vehicles last month, up from 219,580 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

The monthly sales were buoyed by increased domestic and overseas sales of Kia’s SUVs, the company said.

Domestic sales climbed 15 percent on-year to 50,004 units in April from 43,515. Overseas sales advanced 7.9 percent to 190,024 from 176,065 over the same period, the statement said.

In the January-April period, Kia’s sales advanced 2.5 percent to 886,402 autos from 864,448 units in the year-ago period, it said.
