The concern of Stellantis employees: “If Qatar buys the land, they will not leave a piece of factory in front of a 4 -star hotel”

The site of the Stellantis factory in Poissy in the Yvelines is one of the Île-de-France sites in the running for the future PSG stadium. The unions redouble their concern for the future of their factory and call on employees to demonstrate on Monday in Poissy.

“If Qatar really bought the grounds, they will not leave a factory in front of a 4 -star hotel.” Jean-Pierre Mercier, the southern union representative in Stellantis, is bitter. And even more worried since the revelation of discussions between PSG and the management of the factory on a possible establishment of the future PSG stadium on the industrial site of Poissy, the last automotive assembly factory of Ile-de-France which produces the Opel Mokka and the DS3.

The Stellantis site, which extends over more than 170 ha, is one of the study sites that could accommodate the next PSG stadium. Nothing has yet decided at this stage for its location. Several other cities in the region have expressed their interest in this project: Massy (Essonne), Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) and Ris-Orangis (Essonne).

“They have hidden the truth for months. It means that for employees, confidence in the direction is destroyed. How to trust them for the future when they promise us on the heart that there is going to be work after the Mokka?”, Storms the southern delegate.

Tuesday, the CGT union of the automotive giant expressed its concern for the sustainability of the site where management provides for a production of vehicles until the end of 2027 only. “Officially, we have production until the end of 2027,” Jonathan Dos Santos, the CGT of the site, said, depending on which, at a meeting, the management “did not announce new vehicle.”

For its part, the management confirmed in a written response that the factory “has an industrial project established until 2028 (including the assembly of the Opel Mokka and the DS3)”. “Beyond that”, the factory “will continue industrial activities,” she said, promising to discuss future projects “with the social partners, when the time comes”.

“We! We don’t believe them anymore!” Said the delegate Jean-Pierre Mercier, convinced of the programmed end of the factory which employs 2,500 employees. Especially since management has just said, announced for mid-June, the holding of an extraordinary CSE (social and economic committee) whose subject will focus “on an upcoming drop in production”. “According to my information, it is an extremely significant drop of 26 %. It is a new step that they take towards the closure of the factory. Not only is nothing after the Mokka, the main production of the factory. But there, we are already in decline!”, He alert

Asked about this, Stellantis’ spokesperson formally denies the holding of an extraordinary CSE next month. “On the contrary”, retorts Jean-Charles Lefebvre, the CSE which was held this Friday morning informed of the “maintenance of the rate of production.”

Monday, the employees of the site are called upon to demonstrate on the Place de l’Hotel de Ville de Poissy. An interview is planned with Sandrine Dos Santos, the mayor (LR) of the town, to evoke “the future of the factory and jobs and the status of PSG.”

A file on which the president of the Ile-de-France Region affirmed her position on Thursday. “It cannot be Stellantis or PSG, it must be Stellantis and PSG. There cannot be a project of the PSG stadium in Poissy without a strong industrial project of the car manufacturer”, hammered Valérie Pécresse which also underlines that a project of stadium “would be a great hope for this territory”.

“We will no doubt produce more cars in Poissy, as we no longer produce cars in Flins. But Stellantis is working, and I demand it, on an industrial project that will create sustainable employment,” continued the regional president.

“The industrial project is only an announcement effect,” comments the union representative Sud Stellantis. “What employees are asking for is concrete, that is to say, written commitments on after Mokka. After the Mokka, how will we continue to serve our families?”
