Time passes and we tend to forget that Peugeot, who has become stellantis, once made sewing machines and crinolines. The company has over 200 years of history. Essays, failures and genius blows like that of Armand Peugeot, who launched the group on the car track, at the end of the 19th century.

The Peugeot Frères Etablissements wanted to make this story a comic strip. They ordered the Vosges journalist Bertrand Munier. History lover and author of many comics, he immersed himself in the archives for a little less than a year. The album “PEUGEOT, LE PRESTIGE DU LION” was published by Editions du Sign on June 2, 2025. His designers are Didier Chadez and Francis Carin.

The book wants to return This more accessible story And memorable thanks to images, but also to many anecdotes. Bertrand Munier, for example, told the next one: if the cars have a three -digit name and always a zero in the middle, it is not to insert the engine of the engine in zero, as some have sometimes supposed.

This is actually a nod to the Peugeot 201, the 201e model of the brand, a technical success which launches “the explosion of the automobile at Peugeot”, according to the journalist. Another received idea: the company was not really founded in 1810. The family already manufactured fabric in the previous century, before embarking on the steel.

Steel remains the material that has long been prospering the company, starting with the production of Peugeot saws. Especially because the brand’s engineers have developed a rolling technique that makes the metal fine and light

The archives teach us that under the Second Empire, women were tearing up the Peugeot crinolines, six times lighter than the others. Crinolines are undersears that give volume to dresses. A fashion accessory launched by Empress Eugenie, according to Wikipedia.

The comic book finally draws its hat to Armand Peugeot, the only one to have believed in the automobile against the advice of all in the family. The book was delivered “by surprise” to 200 descendants, gathered at the headquarters in Sochaux, on May 17. The author Betrand Munier has a moved memory of this day.

Working on Peugeot appeared to him just as exciting as they are obvious. “Almost premonitory”, concludes the man who fed the wish to become a journalist in front of the FCSM matches, this Intimately linked football club. For the anecdote – one more, he was himself born in a Peugeot 404.
