Soon agreement in the Opel wage dispute not in sight
The plans for the German Opel locations should not be dictated unilaterally, says Gesamt-Betriebsratschef Wolfgang Schäfer-Klug.
In the dispute over the future of Opel The IG Metall has responded to signals from PSA chief Carlos Tavares. The head of the district center, Jörg Köhlinger, contradicted the impression that new collective bargaining was imminent.
“We have neither a new offer from PSA / Opel nor an appointment proposal for the continuation of the negotiations,” said the trade unionist on Friday in Frankfurt. He again demanded concrete and reliable plans for models, capacities and investments in the German OpelLocations with around 18,000 employees.
Comment on the Opel refurbishment: The success bonus for PSA boss Tavares is insensitive – and comes too early
Tavares had as head of the Opel parent company PSA signaled on Thursdayto discuss the future plans for the plants in Eisenach, Rüsselsheim and Kaiserslautern with the Works Council without any preconditions. It concerns planned car models, capacities, investments and the demanded “performance” of the works. He was also ready to present the union with cost structures of comparable PSA plants, Tavares announced.
PSA must understand that the plans for the German sites can not be dictated unilaterally, but real negotiations, the mutual willingness to compromise necessarily required, said Opel Works Council Wolfgang Schäfer-Klug.
