Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) recorded sales of 27,474 units in June 2024, representing a 40% increase compared to 19,608 units sold in June 2023. The company reported this as its highest monthly sales figure to date.
The June sales comprised 25,752 domestic units and 1,722 export units. For the first six months of 2024, TKM sold 150,250 units compared to 102,371 units in the same period of 2023, marking a 47% growth.
Sabari Manohar, Vice President of Sales-Service-Used Car Business at TKM, attributed the performance to the company’s product strategy and customer experience focus. He noted that the recently launched Urban Cruiser Taisor has exceeded expectations, with order intake doubling from the previous month.
The Urban Cruiser Taisor offers three engine options: 1.0L Turbo, 1.2L Petrol, and E-CNG variants. The model represents Toyota’s expansion in India’s SUV segment, which along with the MPV segment, continues to drive the company’s sales growth.
TKM has expanded its presence beyond major cities into rural areas to broaden its customer base. The company recently opened a Toyota Used Car Outlet (TUCO) in New Delhi under the “Toyota U-Trust” brand, focusing on used vehicle sales with transparency and convenience.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, with a combined production capacity of up to 342,000 units annually. The company is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan (89% stake) and Kirloskar Systems Limited of India (11% stake), employing approximately 6,000 people.
The first plant, established in 1997, produces the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender models. The second plant, operational since 2010, manufactures the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux. Additional models in TKM’s lineup include the Glanza, Rumion, and Urban Cruiser Taisor, while the Vellfire and LC 300 are imported as completely built units.
