This block, mounted on hundreds of thousands of Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel produced between 2017 and 2023, suffers from a serious reliability problem in the camshaft training chain.

The mishap could have turned into drama for a family from Vy-les-Lu, in Haute-Saône. In June 2023, Baptiste Duval’s partner took the road, with the two children aged 6 and 2, driving their Peugeot 5008 Diesel engine 1.5 BlueHDI. Suddenly, without any warning sign, the vehicle, however only five years old and displaying 90,000 kilometers on the clock, stops suddenly. Thanks to a final reflex, the driver manages to park on the aisle. The vehicle will finally be towed. Verdict: breakage of the camshaft.
The camshaft on Diesel 1.5 BlueHDI engines is one of the known reliability problems of Peugeot and all brands in the Stellantis group. Many motorists have reported ruptures or discrepancies of this chain, causing start -up refusals, unusual noises (clicks, clicks) and, in the most serious cases, an engine breakage.
Our mechanic wanted to verify the condition of the camshaft and there, verdict, the engine is to be changed. This is the start of the galley

In the case of the Duval family, the mechanic requested the manufacturer for repairing repair, but it was refused due to a revision made with delay while the vehicle has always been maintained in a Peugeot dealership. “There is no link between this delay and the breakage of the camshaft,” said Baptiste Duval. As a result, the cost of changing the engine is 7,000 euros.
Some time later, the couple reformulates a new request for care from Stellantis and new rejection. Consumption mediation does not succeed, as is the exchanges with the after-sales service of Peugeot. Entered, the justice conciliator obtains a response from the manufacturer: “No commercial gesture, if not a gift worth 500 euros”, that the couple will use to change the four tires.
For months, the couple’s car is immobilized. Their second vehicle is not suitable for daily use or family safety, it then requests their insurance, which takes care of a rental for a period of fifteen days. Then, Peugeot offers a solution… at 40 euros per day.
“Stellantis is over. Mechanical problems can be understood, but it is the way customer service treats us that is inadmissible. They drop you.

In November 2023, faced with the stock of engines, the couple resolved to take out a rental with purchase option (LOA) for a new vehicle. “Ironically, two days after signing, the long -awaited engine finally arrives. Result: we find ourselves having to assume both the loan for repair, that of the LOA, and to manage the consequences of this situation on our daily lives “is indignant Baptiste Duval.
Exhausted, the couple therefore joined other disgruntled from Diesel 1.5 BlueHDI engines on a Facebook page created by Smaël Sebille, president of the Victims Channel 1.5 BlueHDI association and UMIA co -founder. “Customers are victims of their manufacturing defects and we have no other choice than to regroup to assert our rights to justice”.
Together, they will carry out a collective action carried by the law firm Me Christophe Leguevaques and the Myleo platform For the defense of the interests of the victims, the same cabinet which leads other fights against Stellantis for the Puretech engines and the Takata airbags.
We are launching this joint collective action because we have absolutely no correct and suitable response from Stellantis and this since they have known the problem at Minima since 2017
