PSA shows (strong) ambitions in the electric

For PSA, the future will be electric. Strong results in 2017, The Lion brand announced Wednesday that it would propose by 2025 an electric version of its entire range of vehicles, to continue to position itself in a buoyant segment.

Speaking at the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit, Carlos Tavares assured that by 2025 “the PSA group will be 100% electrified”, referring to electric vehicles or hybrids. Carlos Tavares said that an electric version would be available on this date for all the models of the group, which will also remain in thermal model.

Automatic piloting by 2030

The boss of the French group also said that by 2030, 80% of PSA vehicles could be used in autopilot under certain conditions. Only 10% of vehicles should be capable of autonomous driving.

In addition, Carlos Tavares announced that he would appeal to the expertise of former Opel engineers, bought by PSA, to design models allowing him to perform his return to the United States. A market that the builder left more than 20 years ago.

Paste to American demand

Peugeot has already started to offer carpooling services in the United States with its brand Free2Move, which uses cars of other brands. “Mobility […] is at the heart of our strategic plan,” explained Carlos Tavares.

The next step, according to him, will be to provide this same type of services with cars of the group, finally to market PSA vehicles in the United States. Opel engineers can “ensure that future products for this market are fully compatible with the United States,” said the group’s leader since 2014.

Carlos Tavares added that PSA will soon announce an agreement to develop its industrial capabilities in Southeast Asia. But refused to say more.
