CEAT announced the launch of ROCKRAD, its first radial tyre developed for mining and rough terrain applications, on July 31, 2025. The Mumbai-based company positions this product as its entry into the demanding mining tyre category while expanding its Truck and Bus Radial segment offerings.
The tyre underwent testing in mining operations in Barbil, Odisha, and rough terrains in Indonesia. ROCKRAD incorporates an S-Type tread pattern intended to provide grip and pressure distribution on uneven surfaces. The sidewall compound was formulated to resist cuts while maintaining flexibility during operation.
Internal company testing indicates ROCKRAD delivers approximately 7% better bead durability compared to competing products, along with improved heat dissipation and structural strength. The tyre will initially be available in 11.00R20 size across India’s mining regions, including Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
The launch represents CEAT’s push toward radialisation in the mining segment, which has traditionally relied on bias tyres. The company stated that ROCKRAD’s extended service life aims to reduce material waste as part of its sustainability initiatives in commercial vehicle applications.
CEAT, established in 1958 as the flagship company of RPG Enterprises, manufactures over 48 million tyres annually across multiple vehicle categories including two-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and off-highway vehicles. The company maintains operations in both domestic and international markets.
RPG Group, founded in 1979, reported a turnover of $5.2 billion and operates across infrastructure, tyres, pharmaceuticals, information technology, and specialty sectors, along with emerging technology businesses.
