BorgWarner to Supply Wastegate Turbos for Major Global OEM’s Hybrid Sports Car Platform

BorgWarner Inc. has announced it will supply wastegate turbocharger technology to a major global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for use in a hybrid powertrain variant of the automaker’s high-profile sports car platform. The start of production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2028.

The wastegate turbochargers are designed to support hybrid applications, offering strong response times and high power density, which contribute to enhanced engine performance. The technology is engineered to support engines producing up to 450 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, supporting rapid acceleration. It is built with heat-resistant materials capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1050°C and supports a lightweight, reliable design.

BorgWarner’s wastegate turbo portfolio is compatible with gasoline engines ranging from 0.9 to 3.0 liters. The turbochargers are electrically actuated, helping manage excess energy within the engine system, which can improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Available in single-scroll, twin-scroll, and dual volute turbine configurations, the technology is also designed to help reduce noise, vibration, and harshness, contributing to a smoother driving experience.

This supply agreement follows several recent contracts awarded to BorgWarner for similar technologies, reinforcing the company’s presence in the turbocharging sector. Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, stated that the company’s range of boosting technologies and engineering expertise contributed to securing the contract.

The agreement underscores ongoing collaboration between BorgWarner and the OEM, particularly in the development of propulsion systems for hybrid vehicles. The company continues to position itself as a supplier of technologies aimed at improving efficiency and performance in internal combustion and hybrid powertrains.

BorgWarner, with over 130 years of history, is a global supplier of automotive systems and components, focusing on sustainable mobility solutions. The company operates in various segments of the automotive industry, including electrification, thermal management, and engine technologies.
