BorgWarner has secured a new contract with a major Chinese original equipment manufacturer for its electric motors on August 11, 2025, marking a significant win in China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market through a platform-based design compatible across battery electric and hybrid models.
The awarded motor incorporates BorgWarner’s ultra-short hairpin welding process, which reduces end-turn height for a more compact structure and improves space utilization. The platform-based design works across a full range of NEV applications.
“We are pleased with the continued progress of our electric motor business in China. Our partnership with this customer spans nearly a decade,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, PowerDrive Systems. “BorgWarner remains committed to delivering smarter, more efficient motor solutions as we work together toward an electrified future.”
BorgWarner is expanding its motor operations to meet rising demand in China’s growing NEV market. In early 2025, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Wuhu municipal government to establish a new manufacturing base for electric drive systems.
The new Wuhu facility is nearing operation and will feature intelligent manufacturing lines capable of producing multiple motor platforms on shared lines. This expansion will increase motor capacity and provide a foundation for scaled delivery.
BorgWarner’s motor products continue to gain new business in China driven by technological and process advantages as the NEV market rapidly grows.
