Tata Motors Expands Operations to Dominican Republic

Tata Motors has entered the Dominican Republic market through a partnership with local distributor Equimax, marking another step in the Indian automaker’s global expansion strategy.

The company announced the launch on August 13, 2025, introducing four commercial vehicle models designed for the Caribbean nation’s transport and logistics needs.

The product lineup includes the Super Ace for last-mile delivery services, the Xenon pickup truck available in single and double cabin configurations, the Ultra range of trucks (T.6, T.7, T.9) for urban logistics, and the LPT 613 tipper for construction applications.

These vehicles are positioned to serve segments including fast-moving consumer goods, e-commerce, food delivery, cargo transport, and infrastructure development.

Asif Shamim, Head of International Business for Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, described the Dominican Republic as a market with growth potential that aligns with the company’s expansion plans. He cited the country’s developing economy and infrastructure as factors that create demand for commercial vehicle solutions.

Gabriel Tellerias, President of Equimax, said the partnership introduces vehicles selected specifically for local business requirements. Equimax will handle distribution, sales, and after-sales service through its network of service centers across the Dominican Republic.

Tata Motors currently sells commercial vehicles in over 40 countries worldwide. The company’s portfolio ranges from vehicles under one tonne to 60-tonne heavy-duty trucks, along with passenger transport solutions for 9 to 71 passengers. The manufacturer has been in the commercial vehicle sector for more than 70 years.

The launch includes customer service provisions such as extended warranties of up to five years or 200,000 kilometers on select models. Equimax’s service network will provide access to genuine parts and maintenance services for Tata Motors vehicles in the Dominican Republic.

Part of the Tata group, which has annual revenues of $180 billion, Tata Motors operates as a $52 billion organization with manufacturing and research facilities in India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, and South Korea.

The company holds the leading position in India’s commercial vehicle market and ranks among the top three passenger vehicle manufacturers in the country.

Tata Motors maintains operations in India, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia, while marketing vehicles across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and South Asian countries.

As of March 31, 2025, the company’s structure includes 93 consolidated subsidiaries, two joint operations, four joint ventures, and multiple equity-accounted associates.

Equimax has operated in the Dominican Republic’s automotive and equipment sectors for over 30 years, representing multiple international brands while providing parts availability and customer service support across the country’s commercial sector.
