It looks like August 2025 will not exactly be an august month for the electric two-wheeler industry. At 44,618 units sold between August 1 and 15, as per Vahan, total sales could end up being below the 100,000-unit mark after three straight months of 100,000-plus sales. Nevertheless, there have been a couple of OEM surprise movements in the first 15 days of the month, impacting the Top 10 rankings.
The top six e-2W OEMs have delivered 38,978 units between August 1 and 15 and account for an 87% share of the 44,618 units retailed.
TVS Motor Co, the e-2W market leader for four months in a row from April through to July, is well set to retain the e-2W crown this month. At 11,160 iQubes sold, it has a 25% share for the August 1-15 period. With 177,515 iQubes sold between January 1 and August 15, 2025, TVS has already achieved 80% of its record annual sales of 220,813 units in CY2024. The company has revealed plans to launch a new electric two-wheeler in Q3 FY2026 (September-October 2025). Expect this to happen around the early part of the third quarter with the festive season opening.
The first surprise of August 2025 is Ather Energy moving up the ranks to take second place. The Bengaluru-based smart electric scooter maker has delivered 7,639 units to customers, giving it a 17% market share. Ather Energy is currently having a stellar run and with first-half August sales, it has crossed the 100,000-unit mark.
The 105,759 units sold till date are already 84% of its entire CY2024 sales of 126,355 units. If the current pace of sales is maintained, expect Ather Energy to go past the 150,000-unit annual mark for the first time in CY2025. Its flagship Rizta family scooter, which surpassed 100,000 wholesales 13 months after launch in April, remains Ather’s key growth driver and currently contributes over 60% of its sales each month. This is creditable given that the three-variant flagship scooter is a premium product.
On August 30, Ather will reveal its new scooter platform – EL – and concept vehicles at its Community Day 2025. The new EL platform, engineered to be versatile and cost-efficient, will enable Ather to expand its product lineup to cater to a wider range of customer needs. This year’s event will also see the launch of Ather’s next-generation fast chargers, and an upgraded version of its software stack, Ather Stack 7.0.
Ola Electric, which recently became the first EV maker in India to surpass cumulative sales of 900,000 units, has clocked retail sales of 6,229 units which gives it third rank and a 14% market share. The company, which led the e-2W market for a long time, had last topped the monthly sales chart in January 2025 but since then has ceded that position to Bajaj Auto in February and March 2025, and to TVS in April, May, June and July 2025.
The bulk of Ola’s sales come from the 14-variant S1 e-scooter, which straddles multiple price-points starting from entry level mass mobility through to premium (Rs 65,000 to Rs 170,000). The S1 Pro, equipped with a 4kWh battery, has a claimed 142km range on a single charge and has an ex-showroom price of Rs 154,999. Ola also manufactures and sells the Roadster X electric motorcycle which develops peak power of 11 kW, top speed of 125kph and has a range of 501km.
On August 15, at its annual event, Ola Electric announced a clutch of new products, next-gen software and announcements about future vehicles and technologies. The company revealed the Ola S1 Pro Sport, which will be the most powerful Ola scooter slated for debut in January 2026.
Bajaj Auto, which had topped monthly e-2W sales in February (21,570 units) and March (32,215 units), has been the No. 2 OEM from April to July as a result of the TVS iQube selling more than the Bajaj Chetak. However, in the first half of August, Bajaj Auto has dropped two ranks to fourth position with 5,955 units and a 13% e-2W market share. This is mainly the result of much-reduced production by 47% YoY in July (10,824 Chetaks) as a result of shortage of supplies of heavy rare earth materials from China. The company is working on two solutions – using light rare earth magnets which are more easily available and also developing new magnet technologies that negate the use of rare earth materials.
The second surprise of this month is the strong performance of Hero MotoCorp with 5,905 units and a 13% market share. With another 17 days to go in August, the company bids fair to better its best-ever monthly sales (July 2025: 10,495 units). July had seen Hero achieve a 10% market share for the first time. This will enable the Vida e-scooter manufacturer to surpass the 10,000-unit monthly sales mark for the second time since it entered the electric two-wheeler industry in October 2022.
While the new Vida V2 launched in December 2024 is an evolution of the V1 range that Hero MotoCorp began its electric mobility journey three years ago, the accelerated sales come from the new Vida VX2 launched at an e-2W-rival-worrying prices.
In a strategic move designed to draw buyers, Hero MotoCorp slashed prices a week after the VX2’s launch – as per the company website, the VX2 Go now costs Rs 44,990 and the VX2 Plus Rs 57,990 with the BaaS option, which makes them among the most affordable e-scooters in India. Hero MotoCorp has clocked nearly 50,000 sales from January till mid-August. If it consistently sells 10,000-plus units ever month for the remainder of the year, expect Hero MotoCorp to get close to or even surpass the 100,000-units annual sales milestone for the first time.
Greaves Electric Mobility (GEM), the EV arm of Greaves Cotton which markets the Ampere brand of e-scooters, is in sixth place with 2,090 units and 5% market share. The company has three key e-scooter brands – Nexus (EX and ST), Magnus (Neo and EX) and Reo (80 and Li Plus). While the flagship Nexus remains the best-selling product for GEM and Ampere Vehicles, the company is seeing growing demand for the new Ampere Reo 80 launched in April at Rs 59,900.
Bgauss Auto, a Mumbai-based startup spawned by electrical solutions major RR Kabel, is also witnessing strong demand for its two products, the RUV 350 and Max C12. In first-half August, Bgauss has sold 851 units to take the seventh rank in the Top 10 e-2W OEMs.
Pur Energy, the Hyderabad-based EV startup incubated from the i-TIC at IIT Hyderabad, remains a regular in the monthly Top 10 e-2W OEM list. The company, which has a five-model portfolio has clocked sales of 818 units..
Another startup which continues to make news is the Bengaluru-based River Mobility, which has a single product – the River Indie. Between August 1-15, 812 Indies have been delivered to buyers of the e-scooter.
Wrapping up the Top 10 e-2W OEM list for first-half August is Kinetic Green which has three products – the e-Zulu, Zing and the e-Luna moped. The company has clocked retails of 615 units.
The overall e-2W market, which has around 210 players, remains the preserve of six players – TVS, Bajaj Auto, Ola Electric, Ather Energy, Hero MotoCorp and Greaves Electric Mobility – who between them account for 38,978 units or an 87% share of total sales of 44,618 units in the first half of August 2025, reflecting just where the market strength lies.
