Tata Technologies Launches Digital Battery Passport Solution

Tata Technologies announced the launch of WATTSync, a digital battery passport solution designed to track batteries throughout their lifecycle from mining to recycling. The platform was unveiled on August 19, 2025, targeting battery manufacturers, automotive OEMs, and recycling companies.

The solution captures and validates battery data across the supply chain, providing stakeholders with information on materials, performance metrics, carbon footprint, and recovery status. WATTSync automates compliance reporting and offers role-based access for suppliers, auditors, and regulators through a shared digital platform.

The timing aligns with upcoming regulatory requirements. Starting February 2027, electric vehicle and industrial batteries sold in the European Union will require digital battery passports.

India has announced plans to implement a battery passport system to improve safety, traceability, and export capabilities, while other countries are developing similar frameworks.

WATTSync integrates with existing enterprise systems including PLM, MES, ERP, and cloud data platforms to create a digital thread for each battery. The platform uses artificial intelligence to monitor battery health and identify anomalies, while blockchain technology ensures data integrity. The cloud-based deployment allows for scaling across different regions.

The solution aims to support circular economy initiatives by providing insights for second-life applications and recycling processes. It also seeks to reduce supply chain risks through verified sourcing and tamper-evident data records.

Some automotive manufacturers have already begun implementing battery passport systems voluntarily. These early adopters have reported that transparency measures can enhance market confidence and potentially increase resale values for electric vehicles.
