BSC is proud to be part of Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell’s Freedom Summer Program, a collaboration that exemplifies the organization’s commitment to youth development and community empowerment. As part of this partnership, throughout the summer, BSC provided free surf lessons and helped youth participants develop leadership skills and build their confidence in aquatic environments. The last surf class through Supervisor Mitchell’s Freedom Summer Program will be Saturday August 23.

Thanks to the partnerships and generous contributions of The Bay Foundation, One With The Ocean and Heal The Bay Foundation, Black Surfers Collective will continue hosting its celebrated Pan African Beach Days, community gatherings that combine free ocean education and surf instruction. These events serve as safe spaces for underserved communities to connect with the ocean, learn essential water safety skills, and experience the joy of surfing in a supportive, culturally affirming environment.
