The chairman of TVS Motor Company called for enhanced collaboration between India and Africa during the opening session of the 20th CII India Africa Business Conclave on Tuesday.
Sudarshan Venu, who chairs the automotive manufacturer, told delegates that both regions should capitalize on their complementary strengths to build partnerships beyond traditional trade relationships.
He pointed to India’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and Africa’s consumer base and infrastructure development needs as areas for potential cooperation.
“The focus should be on leveraging these synergies by not just serving consumers, but by driving deeper social and economic engagement,” Venu said while chairing the conclave.
The business leader outlined four key elements for successful partnerships: value creation, customer connections, quality standards, and customization for local markets. He encouraged companies from both continents to pursue long-term collaborations rather than short-term transactions.
Venu highlighted his company’s experience in African markets, noting that TVS Motor has operated on the continent for more than two decades. The company has maintained its commitment to investing in African markets, he said.
The conclave operates under the theme “Synergies towards Co-Creating a Shared Future” and brings together representatives from industry, government, and institutions. The annual event serves as a platform for exploring business opportunities between India and the 54-nation African continent.
India has increased its economic engagement with Africa in recent years, with investments spanning sectors including artificial intelligence, healthcare, and financial technology. The trade relationship has grown as both regions seek to diversify their economic partnerships.
TVS Motor Company, founded more than a century ago, manufactures two and three-wheeled vehicles and operates in over 80 countries. The company serves as the flagship business of the TVS Group, one of India’s automotive conglomerates.
