Tata Motors launched the LPT 812 truck on September 3, 2025, targeting the Intermediate, Light and Medium Commercial Vehicles segment with a 5-tonne rated payload capacity. The vehicle represents India’s first 4-tyre truck configuration with factory-fitted air conditioning, designed for urban haulage operations across multiple cargo categories.
The launch addresses market demand for higher payload capacity while maintaining operational efficiency in urban delivery applications. Tata Motors positions the vehicle as combining 6-tyre truck capacity with 4-tyre operational benefits.
Technical Specifications and Performance
The LPT 812 operates with a 4SPCR diesel engine producing 125 horsepower and 360Nm torque. The powertrain includes a 5-speed transmission system with booster-assisted clutch technology designed to reduce driver fatigue during operation.
The vehicle features parabolic front suspension with anti-roll bar configuration, full S-Cam air brake systems, and tilt-telescopic power steering. Heavy-duty radial tires support the 5-tonne payload capacity across various load body configurations.
Tata Motors offers multiple load body options to accommodate different cargo types including industrial goods, market loads, fruits and vegetables, and courier services. The truck operates on the company’s established LPT platform architecture.
Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head for Trucks at Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, stated: “The launch of the Tata LPT 812 sets a new benchmark in customer profitability in the segment. This category-defining truck addresses the growing need for improved productivity, while delivering superior fuel efficiency, ease of operations, and maximum uptime. It reflects our commitment to understanding evolving market requirements, and developing advanced solutions that drive long-term business growth for our customers.”
The ILMCV segment represents a significant portion of India’s commercial vehicle market, with operators seeking vehicles that balance payload capacity with operational costs. Urban delivery requirements have increased demand for trucks that can navigate city restrictions while carrying substantial loads.
Tata Motors provides a 3-year or 300,000-kilometer warranty coverage for the LPT 812. The company operates over 3,200 service touchpoints across India, providing maintenance and repair services for commercial vehicle operators.
The manufacturer’s Sampoorna Seva 2.0 program offers vehicle lifecycle management services, while Fleet Edge digital platform enables fleet operators to monitor vehicle performance and optimize operational efficiency.
Tata Motors manufactures commercial vehicles ranging from 4 to 19 tonnes gross vehicle weight in the ILMCV category. The company holds market leadership position in India’s commercial vehicle sector and ranks among the top three passenger vehicle manufacturers.
The LPT 812 launch supports the company’s strategy to address specific market segments with tailored vehicle solutions. Urban logistics growth has created demand for trucks offering higher payload while maintaining maneuverability in congested areas.
