Mahindra Targets Strong Festive Season EV Sales With Highest Monthly Production Of Be 6, Xev 9e.

Mahindra & Mahindra, which was the first of the Indian passenger vehicle and SUV manufacturers to announce that it was passing on full GST benefits to consumers across its ICE SUV portfolio right from September 6, is gearing up to also achieve strong sales of its two electric-origin SUVs in the festive season this year.

The company has produced 4,921 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e e-SUVs in August 2025, up 15% on July 2025 output (4,290 units) and the highest monthly factory production for these two models yet since the Chakan factory began rolling them out in January 2025. Furthermore, August is the third month in a row that M&M has manufactured over 4,000 units (see production and sales data table below), with last month’s number just 79 units shy of the 5,000-unit mark.

Between January and August, M&M’s Chakan plant has produced 29,126 units of the two electric-origin SUVs, of which 26,942 units have been delivered to showrooms and account for a 6.89% share of the company’s record SUV wholesales of 390,464 units.

On the wholesales front, after three straight months of clocking 4,000-plus units, dispatches of the BE 6 and XEV 9e to M&M dealers in August were restricted to 3,864 units as a result of strategic inventory management ahead of the planned GST rate cut, which was announced on September 3.

On August 15, M&M upped the BE 6 ownership quotient with the reveal of the limited-run BE 6 Batman Edition, priced at Rs 27.79 lakh. Within a scant 135 seconds, the model — which marks a licensing collaboration between Mahindra and Warner Bros Discovery Global Consumer Products — sold all 999 units, marking a record launch and highlighting strong demand for themed EVs in India. Deliveries are slated to begin in the fourth quarter of CY2025.

Total wholesales of 26,942 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e give them a 6.89% share of the record 390,464 SUVs that M&M has sold between January and August 2025, up 16% year on year (January–August 2024: 335,248 units). M&M’s eight-month cumulative wholesales mean that it has already achieved 74% of its record CY2024 sales of 528,460 SUVs and sets the stage for the SUV manufacturer to drive past the 600,000 milestone for the first time in both the current calendar year as well as FY2026.

M&M’s EV retail market share rises to 18% with BE 6, XEV 9e

For M&M, whose e-SUV portfolio also includes the XUV 400, the rollout of the BE 6 and XEV 9e in January this year and sales beginning from March has dynamically improved its retail market performance. Vahan-sourced eight-month retail sales data above reveals just how strongly the company’s market share has increased, month on month.

Between January and August 2025, the company has delivered 19,435 e-SUVs — the bulk of this total comprising the BE 6 and XEV 9e — to its customers. The stellar 308% YoY increase translates into an additional 14,607 units over the 4,738 XUV400s M&M sold in the year-ago period.

As a result of this performance, M&M’s share of India’s overall electric passenger vehicle market, which comprises zero-emission hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and MPVs, has jumped to 18% from 8% in the January–August 2024 period.

That’s not all. M&M’s strong e-SUV sales last month helped the Indian e-PV industry to achieve its best-ever monthly retails yet of 17,776 e-PVs in August, up 162% YoY (January–August 2024: 6,787 units).

The company remains bullish on customer demand coming its way for these two premium zero-emission SUVs, which push the EV envelope with their high-performance drivetrains, in-house assembled lithium-ion phosphate battery packs, top-notch crash safety standards, and a host of interior features benchmarked to the highest level.

With the festive season having begun at the end of August with Ganesh Chaturthi, followed by Onam in early September, Navratri opening on September 21 and Diwali in October, expect Mahindra & Mahindra to further ramp up production of the BE 6 and XEV 9e, as well as some popular ICE SUVs like the Scorpio, 3XO, Thar Roxx and the XUV700.
