IG Metallt-Tatrifung Nadine Boguslawski: “We are fully aware of the situation. We want and have to secure employment, real wages and specialists. The companies should also be interested in this.” Employers and politics are now responsible not to endanger the location. “We want to prevent the German key industry and its employees from bleeding at every level. We think and act forward with collective agreements,” said Boguslawski.
Employees in crisis companies are already foregoing
The payment claim is unspecified. “That means: no zero round, but full purchasing power for colleagues and the economy,” said Boguslawski. Companies should also use collective bargaining options for employment.
The union expects the Federal Government to quickly implement an industrial flow price to relieve the steel industry, from Brussels a European local content policy in response to the customs crisis and cheap steel imports. The special investment assets must be quickly implemented into tangible projects. That also helps the domestic steel industry.
Boguslawski: “Challenges such as tariffs or climate protection are the responsibility of politics. Your task is to set the framework for a sustainable steel industry and its jobs.” The employees should not be a victim: “In negotiations for safe jobs in the crisis companies, the employees have already gave up in advance. They need the guarantee in a new collective agreement: their standard of living must not deteriorate.”
The first collective bargaining for the areas “Nordwest” and “East” will take place on September 16 in Düsseldorf. The obligation to peace ends on September 30; After that, warning strikes are possible.
In the German steel industry, 82,000 employees work with a collective agreement nationwide. The starting negotiations initially affect 68,000 steelworks, especially in northwest and eastern Germany. The steel tariff round for Saarland starts in mid-November.
