On the day of the strategic dialogue on the future of the automotive industry, IG Metall and Industrialall Europe published a joint letter. In it you warn that Europe’s automotive sector stands in front of a “perfect storm” from a sinking production, global competition and a turbulent transition to clean mobility.
The unions urgently demand measures to increase the demand for affordable emission -free vehicles, to secure resistant supply chains and to protect the 13 million employees whose livelihood depends on the industry. They emphasize that the time of the diagnosis is over – only brave, concrete decisions can secure the industrial basis of Europe.
Judith Kirton -Darling, General Secretary of Industriall European Trade Union and Christiane Benner, first chairwoman of IG Metall, emphasize: “Decarbonization is not negotiable -but the transformation must be fair. Europe’s automotive workers expect quick, concrete and courageous decisions. Your future and industrial strength in Europe are at stake.”
IG Metall and Industrialall Europe that represent employees in the automotive industry and its supply chains underline that climate goals and industrial policy have to go hand in hand – with strong social protective measures, investments and fair change for employees.
