Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday urged citizens to embrace electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy solutions to tackle pollution and build a sustainable future, as per TNN.

Speaking at the 42nd Foundation Day of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), the governor emphasised the role of EVs in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and curbing urban pollution. He highlighted the successful transition of the Raj Bhavan’s fleet to electric vehicles, calling it a model for others to follow.

“Electric mobility not only lowers emissions but also demonstrates how institutions can lead by example in creating a cleaner environment,” he said.

Kambhampati also encouraged households to adopt rooftop solar systems, noting that they reduce electricity costs while supporting clean energy initiatives backed by government subsidies.

On September 17, the state will launch an ambitious plantation drive to plant 75 lakh saplings across Odisha. The governor called on citizens, particularly students, to actively participate in the effort.

Describing pollution as a “severe threat to health, livelihoods, and future generations”, he urged people to reduce plastic use, manage e-waste responsibly, conserve water, and adopt renewable energy.

The governor also asked OSPCB to set bold goals for the coming decade, focusing on green technologies, zero-waste industries, youth engagement, and leveraging digital tools for environmental monitoring.

The event was attended by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, and senior officials from the forest department, reflecting the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
