EcoFuel Systems (India) Ltd. has secured a ₹66 crore order from Tamil Nadu to convert 850 diesel buses to CNG under the state’s clean transport initiative. The Mumbai-based company will execute the retrofit project across multiple State Transport Depots over the next 12 months, with the conversion expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 5.7 lakh tonnes annually.
The contract positions EcoFuel Systems’ total converted fleet in India at over 1,500 buses, establishing it among the largest players in the diesel-to-CNG conversion segment. The company will use certified CNG conversion kits and advanced technology to ensure safety standards and fuel efficiency.
“This is a proud moment for EcoFuel Systems (India) Ltd. Tamil Nadu’s decision to convert diesel buses to CNG is a testament to the state’s progressive leadership in clean mobility. This order is not just a commercial win, but a strong validation of our commitment to sustainable innovation. Our proven retrofit technology not only helps reduce carbon footprint but also ensures economic viability for transport corporations. We look forward to making public transport greener, cleaner, and more sustainable for the people of Tamil Nadu and many others in future,” said Virendra Vora, Founder and Chairman of EcoFuel.
The Tamil Nadu order aligns with India’s National Green Mobility Mission, which targets converting public transport fleets to low-emission alternatives by 2030. CNG retrofits offer transport corporations a cost-effective alternative to electric buses, providing decarbonization without high capital expenditure.
