The Stellantis factory in Poissy in the Yvelines will be stopped three weeks from October 13 to 31. The 2,000 employees will be partial unemployed. Officially, due to a drop in sales, but the South union sees one more threat to the future of the factory.

This production judgment worries unions that ultimately fear the closure of the factory. “To protect its profits, and its dividends, the general management of Stellantis wants to close factories and dismiss employees,” explains Jean-Pierre Mercier, South union representative at Stellantis. “It is unacceptable in an international automotive empire rich in billions,” recalls Jean-Pierre Mercier.
In a press release, the management of Stellantis announced “the production stopping on 15 working days, from October 13 to 31, this in order to adapt its production rate to a difficult market in Europe, by best controlling its stocks before the end of the year”.

“Three days of vacation had already been positioned in October, to which will therefore be added 12 days of partial unemployment,” said the same source.
On the Poissy site, the 2,000 employees manufacture Citroën DS3 but especially the Opel Mokka, a city car signed Opel, one of the group’s 14 brands. 420 vehicles come out a day from the Yvelines factory.
In Europe, Stellantis also pauses its German, Spanish and Italian factories. The group is faced with a gloomy market for sales and technical setbacks that have led to repeated car reminders. According to Arnaud Aymé, SIA Partners Automobile Expert, Stellantis must be reinvented. “Stellantis is currently, in a phase where certain models are being renewed, such as the Citroën C3, the Opel Frontera or the Fiat 500”, explains the expert. “We are in a period when sales drop slightly and therefore production must also decrease, if the company does not want to do too much stock.”
Over the past five years sales of new cars have dropped by 22 % in Europe.
