Mappls App Launches Traffic Signal Timers and Toll Savings Features

MapmyIndia’s Mappls app has launched three new navigation features aimed at improving driving efficiency and cost-effectiveness for Indian commuters, the company announced on September 25, 2025.

The features include AI-powered live traffic signal timers, NHAI annual toll pass savings information, and toll road distance tracking. The company claims these are the first such features offered by a navigation app in India.

Traffic Signal Integration

The traffic signal feature, developed in partnership with Bengaluru Traffic Police and Arcadis, integrates more than 125 smart signals across Bengaluru into the app. Users can view live traffic signal status up to 500 meters in advance, with real-time countdowns for green, amber, and red signals displayed on the navigation screen.

“The integration of AI-powered Live Traffic Signal Timers in partnership with MapmyIndia and Arcadis is a major step forward in enhancing traffic management in Bengaluru,” said Karthik Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru. The feature is currently available for Bengaluru, with plans to expand to other cities.

In collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the app now displays potential toll cost savings available through the NHAI Annual Toll Pass before users begin their trips. The feature shows how much drivers could save on toll charges by using the annual pass system.

A.R. Chitranshi, COO of IHMCL (NHAI’s technological arm), stated that the collaboration “aligns with our vision to make highway travel more efficient, transparent, and cost-effective.” Users interested in purchasing the pass can use the separate Rajmargyatra mobile app.

Distance Tracking

The third feature provides toll road distance tracking, showing users the total kilometers traveled on toll roads during their journey. This aims to offer greater transparency in toll road usage and assist with travel planning and budgeting.

The new features are currently available on the iOS version of the Mappls app, with Android availability expected soon. The company has indicated plans to expand the traffic signal integration to additional cities beyond Bengaluru.

MapmyIndia, operating under C.E. Info Systems Ltd, describes itself as India’s leading digital maps and location technology company. The company was founded in 1995 and claims to serve over 2,000 enterprise customers. It offers mapping services to businesses, automotive manufacturers, government organizations, and consumers.

The Mappls app is positioned as an indigenous alternative to international navigation apps, offering maps and navigation services specifically tailored for Indian users. The company states it has built comprehensive digital map data covering all towns, villages, and road networks across India.
