About:Energy Unveils Cloud Platform to Streamline Battery Cell Selection Process

Battery development software company About:Energy has announced the launch of The Voltt, a new web-based platform designed to help engineers evaluate and compare battery cells for vehicle applications.

The platform aims to address challenges in the cell selection process, which the company identifies as a critical decision point in battery development programs. According to About:Energy, traditional approaches involving fragmented data and lengthy testing cycles can make cell selection time-consuming and costly.

Platform Features and Capabilities

The Voltt provides engineers with tools to model, test, and compare battery cells under real-world operating conditions. The platform draws on About:Energy’s existing library of data from more than 30 high-performance cells, collected through extensive testing at the company’s London laboratory.

The cloud-based system operates as a standalone tool, eliminating the need for additional software integration. Users can run custom drive cycles and mission profiles to simulate cell performance across different applications.

About:Energy reports that early adopters in sectors including drones, aviation, space, and motorsport have achieved time savings of up to six months in their cell selection processes.

The company has experienced significant growth over the past year, expanding its workforce by more than 50 percent with senior hires from companies such as Northvolt and Lilium. About:Energy’s advisory board includes Thierry BollorĂ©, former CEO of Jaguar Land Rover and Renault, and Tudor Brown, co-founder and former president of ARM Holdings.

Dr. Gavin White, co-founder and CEO of About:Energy, emphasized the platform’s potential impact on battery program economics. “By giving leaders the evidence to choose the right cell at the outset, we’re empowering them to make decisions that unlock performance and commercial advantage without costly trial-and-error,” White stated.

Lorenzo Bergamaschi, product lead for The Voltt, noted that the platform addresses a common challenge faced by engineers. “Engineers are under huge pressure to make high-stakes choices quickly, often without full system-level data because at early stages manufacturers may not yet have it available,” Bergamaschi explained.

The Voltt is now publicly viewable, with a 14-day free trial available for users who register for full platform access. The platform launch coincides with About:Energy’s participation at The Battery Show North America 2025, taking place October 6-9 in the UK Pavilion, Stand 3222.

The company has formed partnerships with battery manufacturers including Molicel, Amprius, Enpower-Greentech, and Inobat to provide comprehensive cell data within the platform. About:Energy recently collaborated with Quantum Systems’ EFT drone battery division to validate the platform’s capabilities in field applications.
