Scania Commercial Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd. announced today the appointment of GMMCO Limited as its authorized dealer partner, marking a significant shift in the company’s India strategy. The partnership represents Scania’s transition from direct sales to a dealer-based distribution model aimed at enhancing regional coverage and customer service.
Under the new arrangement, GMMCO will handle sales and service operations across Northern, Eastern, and Central India, while existing partner PPS Motors will continue serving Southern and Western regions. The territorial division is designed to ensure comprehensive national coverage and improved response times for customers.
The collaboration signals a strategic realignment in Scania’s operations, with the company shifting focus toward product planning, innovation, and lead generation. Dealers will independently manage sales, service, invoicing, documentation, aftermarket operations, and inventory management.
“The appointment of GMMCO marks an important step in Scania’s India growth journey,” said Silvio Munhoz, Managing Director of Scania Commercial Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd. He highlighted GMMCO’s service network and industry presence as key factors in the selection.
Chandrashekar V, Managing Director and CEO of GMMCO Ltd., expressed confidence in driving Scania’s growth through the company’s infrastructure and service capabilities across multiple sectors.
The partnership aligns with Scania’s global strategy of providing complete transport solutions rather than standalone vehicle sales. This approach includes application-specific product selection, customized service packages, financial solutions, and performance optimization through connected services.
Scania entered the Indian market in 2007, focusing on mining and construction segments. The company established its Indian subsidiary in 2011 and operates an assembly facility near Bangalore. GMMCO, established in 1967 as part of the CKA Birla Group, is a supplier of integrated solutions for infrastructure, mining, energy, and transportation sectors with annual revenues exceeding 5,000 crore rupees.
