Production at the Stellantis site in Sochaux (Doubs) is once again at a standstill as of this Friday, October 31 afternoon. Already, there were no more cars leaving the lines between October 15 and 27 following a gearbox supply problem. A paradox for this factory which manufactures 3008 and 5008, two models in demand.

The return to normal was short-lived. In Sochaux, the historic Stellantis factory is once again at a standstill, employees on the afternoon and evening shift, around 1,500 employees, will not go to work. This forced shutdown is planned, at least, until Sunday, November 2. However, they returned to work this Monday the 27th after almost two weeks of total shutdown on the assembly lines of the 3008 and 5008.
On site in Sochaux, our colleagues, Hugo Flotat-Talon and Rémy Poirot, confirm that a problem with the supply of gearboxes is still at the origin of this production stoppage. They were able to collect reactions from employees and unionists, destabilized by this “yo-yo” production.
It’s hard to follow, even us at the heart of the company have difficulty finding our way.

“People are hanging on their phones, even on Sundays, to find out if they work on Monday,” says a union delegate met by our colleagues.
During a CSE this Thursday, October 30, management had just announced overtime at the end of November. Saturdays 22 and 29 as well as Sunday 30 November should be worked to catch up with production and cope with orders, which continue to arrive. “But we are presented with calendars for a month from now when we are unable to tell us how people will work three days later, we find it hard to believe in these forecasts which constantly vary,” says a CSE elected official.

These serial cancellations sometimes have significant repercussions for employees. “People pay for daycare for their children and finally learn the day before their working day that they would not have needed it because they are partially unemployed,” an employee annoys.
For employees on permanent contracts, salary losses are also significant. The employees concerned, around 2,500 in total, lost between €100 and €200 in October. “The months when taxes fall and parents have to pay for extracurricular activities,” insists a unionist. Another mentions the fate of temporary workers. “It depends on their contract, but some may have lost much more.”
For its part, the factory management wanted to be reassuring this week. “Contrary to the trend observed in other European automobile production plants, we should have a month without interruption of sessions for November,” she said. But this Friday, October 31, Stellantis can no longer confirm that Sochaux production workers will work on Monday, November 3. An update will be made on Sunday evening. The evolution of the situation seems more uncertain than ever. The toll-free number 0800 88 77 69 remains activated to inform employees.
This cessation of production is paradoxical, because demand for 3008 and 5008, the two models manufactured in Sochaux, is strong. Normally, the usual throughput in the factory is around 1,044 vehicles per day. With these repeated production stoppages, so many cars are not leaving the historic factory of the Peugeot brand of the Stellantis group.
