In a letter sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Toyota announced plans to recall 1,024,407 vehicles across the Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru brands.

The recall is due to a glitch with the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) System that can cause the rearview camera to freeze or fail to display when the vehicle is in reverse.

After an internal investigation, Toyota determined the vehicles included in the recall may not meet federal requirements.

The recall affects certain 2022-2026 model-year Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru vehicles with the Panoramic View Monitor System installed. Some of Toyota’s most popular models are being recalled, including the RAV4, Grand Highlander, Highlander, Prius, Camry, Crown, Sienna, Land Cruiser, Venza, Mirai, and bZ4X.

Lexus models included in the recall are the NX, ES, LC, RC, RZ, RX, LX, LS, TX, and GX. Meanwhile, the Subaru Solterra, which shares the same platform as Toyota and Lexus EVs, is also being recalled.

Toyota said those with impacted vehicles can take them to the dealership, where it will update the parking assist software, free of charge.

The company plans to mail out owner notification letters on December 16, warning them of the safety risks. Toyota said it will send additional info to owners once a fix is available.

The recall comes after Toyota issued one in September for over 590,000 vehicles, also due to a software glitch. The recall forced Toyota to halt sales of EVs, including the bZ4X, Lexus RZ, and Subaru Solterra.
