STATEMENTS
José López-Tafall, general director of ANFAC He indicated that “the electrified market continues to grow in Spain. Until October, one in every five passenger car sales has been an electrified one. Very good news that shows that there is evident citizen interest in electrification.
In 2025, electrification has taken a leap in Spain motivated by the notable commercial effort of the brands and the provision of purchase aid. Closing the year above 200,000 sales of plug-in hybrid and pure electric passenger cars is now possible. However, although these figures are positive, they still place us below the European average: 19% penetration in passenger cars compared to 25% in Europe, and just 8% in commercial vehicles compared to 10% in Europe. Furthermore, the current pace remains insufficient to meet the emissions reduction targets for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. This is not the time to settle, but to accelerate. The evolution of the market shows the urgent need to extend the funds of the MOVES program until the end of the year to avoid a halt in sales. A situation that could worsen in January 2026, when the 15% personal income tax deduction for the purchase of electrified vehicles also ends.
The continuity of MOVES and tax incentives is essential to maintain market confidence and not lose the ground gained in electrification. Consolidating this market is key to conveying that Spain is moving decisively towards electric mobility. A fundamental message if we want to become, as stated in the roadmap of the Spain Auto Plan 2030-2035, a reference hub in the electromobility industry.»
