JK Tyre & Industries Ltd has launched what it describes as India’s first embedded smart tyres for passenger vehicles, featuring built-in sensors designed to monitor critical tyre parameters continuously.
The tyres, manufactured at the company’s Banmore facility in Madhya Pradesh, incorporate sensors within the tyre structure that track air pressure, temperature, and potential air leaks. The technology aims to provide real-time data to improve vehicle safety, performance, and fuel efficiency.
According to Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of JK Tyre, the launch represents a significant step in the company’s innovation strategy. “By integrating intelligence at the very core of performance, we are transforming the way India drives, making mobility smarter, safer, and more sustainable,” he stated.
The embedded smart tyres will be available through JK Tyre’s dealership network in sizes ranging from 14 to 17 inches. The company positions this product as an advancement of its earlier SMART Tyre technology, which combined Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems with cloud-based analytics when introduced in 2019.
JK Tyre, part of the JK Organisation, operates 11 manufacturing facilities globally—nine in India and two in Mexico—producing approximately 35 million tyres annually. The company ranks among the top 20 tyre manufacturers worldwide and was the pioneer of radial tyre technology in India, producing its first radial tyre in 1977.
The development aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, emphasizing domestic technological capabilities in the automotive sector.
